Well is always a relative term. As I said, it's a roller coaster. Spent all day with doctors and hospital visits, phone calls to family as my mother had another set of strokes. She's doing ok now and will have more tests next week to check out her heart. She's seemed to be done with the worst of it right now and has bounced back to being herself again. In the past 11 months I've lost 3 close people. But I'm not dreading today or the next so in that aspect things are well. Keep moving forward!

Things are getting very quiet around here so I thought I'd change up the usual roll call.
Spent the weekend camping with the scout troop. Lots of work, lots of campfire smoke. Cold frosty nights. Got to see part of the meteor shower that was going on. Not sure if I want to join the troop for camping next month..brrr. I really like my comfy warm bed. Even having that cpap thing strapped to my face is more fun than throwing a jacket and knit cap over my head to keep warm. Last year November I camped with a battery powered electric blanket.
Well the leaves on the trees are nearly all down. Got a nice warm blast of air yesterday. Rode home with the top down on the car. Not too many of those days left.
What a difference a year makes. The Girl was seriously injured last october and today she's cheerleading and catching tumblers. The Boy (almost manly now) is starting to get involved in things that could lead to careers, socializing and having a much better time with life. So goes the roller coaster of life, always hang onto the bars.
Looking to get a family vacation in next month for a few days, not many warm spots in november and not many places down south have indoor pools.
See what happens when you quit smoking, life! And back I go into that busy life. Enjoy and hang on whenever you can!

I'm here too! .. finally
Busy still but otherwise fine. Every weekend booked in October for commitments. Doing the camping thing too, blankets are now a requirement.
Prepping everything for winter. Had beautiful fall colors that remain for the other half of the trees that haven't lost their leaves yet.
Gotta start wheeling the snowblower out soon too. Providing things work out, I plan to actually have my car in the garage this winter, first time I should be able to walk out of the house and into my car without digging it out.
Country, I'm sure hubby will miss the outdoor stuff, but things aren't enjoyable if the body doesn't agree. I wish him good health. Recently a 40yr old women friend of the family got a surprise that her heart was working at 15%. She's home from the hospital now, but has to wear a defibrillator vest for the next 3 months and is forbidden from driving. I'm so tied to my car I can only empathize with others who are limited from doing so.
Back to the grindstone I go, stay well, stay smokeless everyone!

I'm going to have to assume that something stressful put that thought in your head that a cigarette would make everything better. A rational view in hindsight would show you that a cigarette is only a diversion and fixes nothing. Ann is correct you know. Don't just collapse and give up on Quitting. I don't count my quittime as that's unneccessary math for me. And while I've had a (very) few cigars since my quit date, I don't think any less of myself. I just know I don't smoke cigarettes anymore and smoking itself is not part of my normal life. For many years you met life's challenges without the blanket of smoke. Count this if you must as another bump on the road, but continue to keep going forward.

Roll Call again! October already.
It's been rather quiet around here and I see many have taken time away from here (myself included).
Busy life which I guess is a good thing. I don't know if it's a side-effect of my sleep therapy but lately I am easily angered by just about anything. So I've tried to lay low, grit my teeth and otherwise cope with sanity. On the flip side, my energy level is better now.
Country, I hope the news is encouraging in regards to your hubby. That's a whole mess of worry that no one wants to have to carry. It's lousy the way life throws trials and challenges unexpectedly at us.

Another Monday rooolllls in!
It's been quiet around here...has it also been Quit around here?
Still living the smokeless life with the exception of an overly smoked piece of beef this weekend.
Haven't made much headway into loosing some weight although I am trying. Where I seem to have made progress is in getting more used to that CPAP thing. I can now keep it on through the night. Even bought a special pillow to help. Still too early to say that it's doing me any good yet.
Everything else is going all right on the home front, usual ups and downs.
But nowhere in my week did I have an urge to smoke, it is life without cigs which is normal to me and can be for those too who choose to go the smokeless route.

Tore another page off the wall calendar. Seems like I just put that thing up there not too long ago.
Thinking about a few of our quitters. Country...sorry to hear about the tough issues you and your hubby are facing. I can only hope and pray that the news gets better.
JudyB..check in on the Roll Call soon, let everyone know you're ok. I have a co-worker who grew up in Laplace and he's obliviously concerned about the water damage there.
I decided hat I need to lose some weight and started to exercise more and eat a lot of veggies. I'll assume some of the lessons learned with Quitting apply as well, especially with regard to determination.
Fall kicks in, in a few weels. I'm not sure I want to give up on summer yet. Not much of a yard to mow and hardly any mosquitoes.
Back to the grind...have a good week everyone!

Well it's another week. How are all you folks doing on your Quits? Judyb...hope you got your hatches battened down with Isaac on your doorstep. Dot...how you doing? Still hanging with us? School is in session. The usual ups and downs around here. I had a transaction done recently and when I got into my car I thought out loud "what is that smell?" and then I realized it was cigarette smoke from the guy in the trailer where business is conducted. Pretty cool to be that far removed from smoking and forgeting the smell...altho' as a smoker I never smelled smoke since we all reeked of it normally. My battles with the cpap machine continue on. I've never had so much insomnia before this thing. But I'm no quitter...er wait, what? Like quitting smoking, I intend to stick it out a while longer. The Girl is still pretty spotted but so far things have been ok for her. She just joined gymnastics again, which is a major triumph considering her injury she had back from October. She's even doing a modeling gig (spots and all) next month. I watch outside my work window at the smokers below and notice that many of them tried quitting. Sigh. Maybe someday they'll get a quit they stick with. I guess, in total, there's just no room in my life for smoking! Best decision I ever-ever made! Now I'm trying to loose some weight. Eating lots of veggies. Jury is still out if that or the cpap is the second best decision I ever made. And so, life goes on without a cig in hand. You all still smokeless? Give it a shot, life is better smokeless. 10-27-99

The Boy starts school tomorrow and The Girl starts next week. I'm hoping there's less drama this year than last.
Feeling a bit under the weather today. I know part of that is due to an old friend dying yesterday. But at least he had a good number of years in the game and time to say good bye.
Not much else going on. Trying to get motivated and dig out a bit from a lot to do.

Toots...3 days is AWESOME!! Get past day 3, that's a really really tough day. In fact a lot of the hard zones come in 3's. 3-days, 3 weeks, 3 months. It is so worth quitting. You probably can't imagine it, but after you quit for some time the thoughts of smoking don't even come to you. Whole days without nary a thought to something that ruled your life, sucked your wallet and your breath. Many of us quitters have moved on in our smokeless lives and if you can stick to this, fight thru the craves and outlast the grasp addiction has hold of you...well I can truthfully say you will live to never regret it and in fact celebrate your freedom.
Now then, life goes on smokeless or not. And in my smokeless life I'll share the following happenings in my life: The Girl's biopsy came back with nothing systemic (not lupus, nor thyroid, nor lymphoma). She still looks like she's wearing a leopard skin suit (I'm surpised no one thought is was leprosy). She starts school next week, but all throughout the summer as this thing covered more of her body she's had to address an audience of onlookers that she's got a skin problem and she's not contagious. The next step may be ultraviolet treatments, but at least for the moment the areas of redness are diminishing. On another front, she's had some really creepy text messages that prompted us to make a visit to the police station yesterday. There are just too many nutcases out there and while I personally handled similar issues with my son's phone, this time I'll let the cops address it first.
The Boy starts high school next week. Hard to belive he'll be able to drive next summer. Needless to say he's a little bummed about his free-time near an end. He's also getting near that age where a job soon kills any free time. He's due to grow up soon anyway and join the ranks of us adult wage slaves. Besides, car insurance and gas cost money.
Got another cpap machine today. Oh joy, the last time I tried to use one I could have thrown it down my staircase. This machine is a bit different and more friendly. I promised to give it a chance. It's on a rental basis I'm told...try before you buy...or break. I was told that it might be a good idea to have a few drinks before I use one again to calm me down (the irony being that alcohol is one of the things that really exacerbate sleep apnea).
The drought still lingers here. Got a red cedar tree that turned almost all brown. I'm trying to water it every day but I don't think I'm going to win the battle. It will probably join my dead raspberry garden, a dead lillac bush and a dead pine tree. There's a river close by that is probably 4 feet lower than normal. In the spring that river would be about ten feet higher. Really strange weather we've had the last year.
Thinking about taking a fall trip south with the family this year. South Atlantic coast or Gulf side, or both. Slim, any good spots gulf side? I know you take trips down that ways.
That's all for now.
Smokeless and cigless since 10-27-99

Doing fine.
Had my first exposure to a cpap machine for my sleep apnea. Did not go well at all which was very disappointing. Looking at other options and lifestyle changes. I could loose a few pounds too.
Hot weather forecasted again, but rain is in the possibilites.
The Girl is to get a biopsy this week to hopefully rule out lupus and get a better understanding of a bodywide skin condition that has increasingly worsened. She was fit to be tied when she had a blood test so this new test won't be a picnic for all involved.
Had an annual family get together yesterday. My brother and I were able to help go thru some of the stuff our other recently deceased brother left behind in his workshop area. Bittersweet moments but we accomplished what we had on the to do list.

We had a good storm system move through and finally got some much needed rain. I'm seeing the bottom of ponds and crunchy brown lawns. So far I have a dead lilac bush and a small "ever"green. Garden is a complete loss and I would think that is a microscope on the whole of farming. It's just been one wierd mess of seasons.

Back from a week camping in the woods with the boy scout troop. The one good thing about the dry weather is that the bugs were nearly non-existent. However, there is a fire ban so we had to camp without any camp fires. Of course it was hot enought to roast marshmellows without any fire. Blisters on my feet, too much hiking. I'm enjoying the comforts of the modern world, such as air conditioning, soft bed and flush toilets! And electronic computers.
Bunch of work piled up while I was gone but otherwise good to be back.

The year is just cruising by!
Soon the kids go back to school again.
I've been spending a lot of time camping with the Boy's scout troop. Off again next week for another tick inducing romp through the forests. I don't mind the hot weather we're having here but it makes it tough to sleep outdoors.
Where I live the storms have been either north or south of us and everything is tinder dry. July 4th fireworks are cancelled.
I can't even imagine smoking in the heat and with the dry conditions we have I hope the smokers don't carelessly toss their cigs away.
Did they ever come to a conclusion on what started those fires in Colorado and other western areas?
anyway...no cigs since...oct 27 '99.

Yesterday was The Girl's birthday. Getting old. Still, she's never seen me smoke and I have to dig for the lighter to light the candles.
I don't know how people can still afford to smoke anymore. I heard that my state government was going to add another dollar in tax on them. When I quit, packs were about $3.25 local and about $5 in the city. I haven't priced them in a long time and one dandy benefit to quitting that's immediately noticed.
Sunday I heard the loud shrill of cicadas, twice. That's an august bug around my part of the world. Now I have to wonder if we get a longer summer or an early winter.
Party on!
