Saw you posting at the Roll Call. Glad to count you amongst us.
Appologies ahead of time for the American slant to the board re: date formats and all. We've actually have and had quite a few international folks pass thru here. Smoker's addiction is a universal problem affecting the common humanity.
What's a pack going for these days in the UK? Don't worry, there's enough resources on the net to allow us to do conversion rates to our respective frame of minds.
The best way to battle this addiction is to admit one is addicted, then deny submission to the shouts\whispers in our ears. Quitting is a life-changing process. Not a one-time deal. The end-goal is a new YOU. All of us here are living and breathing proof that you are not alone in this process and that it is possible to live without dependance upon cigarettes. The first step has already been made by you. We'll be here to cheer you along. Keep the Quit...no matter what!

Hi sorry for late reply never saw the posting, just getting used to this. my friend recommended you to me and she is american I met her on another group from haveing our babies and she said you guys was great so here I am!! The brand i was smoking richmond kingsize is £4.09 a pack of 20 but some are more expensive and are now about £4.70 so i decided to go for putting £4 in my jar everytime i would normally buy cigarettes which is usually every morning on the way home from school, so up to now i have £12 in my jar and its keeping me motivated watching it grow I said me and the kids can use it to do something nice when there is enough, i was just saying to my friend last night that its because of the cigs that i am always skint and cant keep affording to do much as a family because I had to have money to pay for my addiction to the cigs. Liz x Two days, 14 hours, 2 minutes and 7 seconds. 51 cigarettes not smoked, saving £10.34. Life saved: 4 hours, 15 minutes.

Yep, those quitmeters are great little things...but they have nothing on actual coinage in a jar!
After some time, you can start to imagine not only the money saved, but the pile of cigarettes--you did NOT smoke.

Hello and welcome Lizzy. Quitting smoking isn't easy, but it can be done. Keeping busy with your children will help, but the evenings can be pretty hard when you're alone. Do you have any crafts or hobbies? Do you like to read? These are some good ways to keep your hands and mind busy. Also, putting the money you save smoking in a jar is a really great idea. Think of how much fun you and the kids can have. Come here before you light up. We may be on different time zones, but there is plenty here to read to help you fight the craves. Rant, rave, bi*ch, complain, shout, whatever, but don't light up.

Hi Liz,
Like me, you're a newcomer to quitting. Yesterday was my first day. Hang in there and we newcomers can support each other thru the rough spots.
One day, 4 hours, 33 minutes and 25 seconds. 35 cigarettes not smoked, saving $4.64. Life saved: 2 hours, 55 minutes.

Liz, so the brainfog has set in already huh? It's not just you. We all go through it to some degree. Some more than others. This too shall pass. I got some good laughs at myself when I went through it. Have fun with it. It's all part of the program.
