We used to call this "diversion" on the old, old board. It's not related to smoking, but it keeps your mind thinking and your fingers moving and away from cigarettes.................
In June my husband and I are moving from Southern California to western North Carolina (near Asheville) and I could use all the help I could get in pointers on packing and moving. We have been in our present house for 33 years now. Can you imagine how much "stuff" we have to go through after that much time?! We pack our own stuff and the movers come and load it on their van. We also have four cats and a raven to move! (It gets even more interesting, but I'll stop there)..............
So, #1, any pointers on packing? #2, any pointers on the actual drive cross country? #3, can any one tell me more about western NC and how much I'll love it there?
I am so stressed right now (forgot to add in that in two weeks my son is getting married in Ohio), but I am oh so happy that I quit smoking almost SIX YEARS ago! There is no telling how this stress might have affected me back then. But I must tell you, next to giving birth to my two wonderful children, quitting smoking was the next best thing I've ever done!
Hope to hear from some of you!

What a BIG move you're taking on!!! I don't envy you...but we have two people from N.C. on this board.
Last time I moved I coded each box with a letter that represents each room. I also kept a cross reference sheet that listed an item and the box number it was stored in. It really helped.
See if you can get tranquilizers from your vet for the kitties!!!
Good luck and happy trails!!!

Hi Ginger. You couldn't pick a better place to live! I'm located in Glen Alpine, about 50 miles east of Ashville on I 40. We've lived here for the past 12 years, and before that we lived in Boone, up in the mountains, for 20 years. What town are you moving to? I could tell you more if I knew. My nearest big town is Morganton, and very nice sized place. Ashville is a very progressive city.
As for moving, I had to do a lot of that too, as my husband was career AirForce for 20 years, and drug me and 4 kids all over the place. The first thing I always do is take down all unnecessary things (knickKnacks, curtains, etc.) clean and pack them away. Find a good corner to stack "keepers", sell, give, or throwaway everything else! Pack out of season clothes, blankets, etc. Then just do what's in front of you at the moment, and don't think much beyond that...it will all happen!

To Dot: I will be moving about 40 miles south of you. We're not actually in a town, but we're about halfway between Rutherfordton and Lake Lure. Our address shows it as Rutherfordton, but we're quite a bit west of town. We are tired of the "concrete jungle" in Southern California and fell in love with NC about 8 years ago when we came to visit. How do we exchange email addresses so we don't bore everyone with our NC talk? Or would this too be a good diversion for everyone? I think I remember you being on the board 5 years ago when I was quitting. Are you the same Dot?
Thanks for any and all information you can give me. I also need to know about HMOs.............the one we have now is only good in CA, NV, OR, and Washington.

Last year we demolished our home of 27 years, and rebuilt. As I packed my precious collections (junk), I took pictures of everything, wrapped most in bubble wrap, and listed everything on the outside of the box.
We are in our new house, now, and I find that I don't want to display a lot of that stuff, now or maybe ever. With the pictures, and everything already wrapped and boxed, it will be easy for my daughter sell it on eBay! Maybe!! I'm still undecided!

Hey again, Ginger. We'll be "almost" neighbors! My email address is candd1955@earthlink.net. I'm also on yahoo messenger at mudderofj. I don't know how much help I'll be, but happy to answer what I can, or find out "what" when I don't know. I'm probably the same "Dot" you remember. I quit for 2 1/2 years, the blew it. I've been quit this time for almost 16 months.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
