A professor and her student from Northwestern Illinois University have contacted the moderators at Smoke Busters. They have requested and (after some serious thought) have been granted the permission to ask our visitors to partake in a survey of their creation to be used as research in the student’s thesis on the importance of online smoking cessation forums.
The moderators of SmokeBusters have unanimously agreed that this request is acceptable within our rules and guidelines as they pertain to the subject of “Spam”. The profit motive here is not one of monetary gain, but one of academic enrichment, which may someday prove beneficial to all. There is a monetary incentive being offered to survey participants but your own motivation may come from other avenues.
The professor is in the process of setting up a copy of the survey on a website that we can post a direct link to. In the meantime I am providing an image of the original email we received concerning this request. The email addresses of both individuals are contained within. Contact these individuals directly about further instructions in being a part of this project.
The use of an image protects against the use of automated programs that scour the Internet, harvesting email addresses that are found in forums, which are then used, by “spammers” and the nefarious email they spawn.
The period for collecting survey data will end April 31st, 2005.
The next message in this thread contains the image of the original email sent to the moderators here.
