:-/I think a few of you will remember me...I was first here for 2 1/2 years, then again for 1 1/2...so I know how easy it is to blow looonnng quits. Now I'm trying to gather myself together to do quit again, and it sure ain't easy! I'm really tired of all the "bother" of smoking, and I'm sure you can all relate to that. But I've got to plan how I will deal with other issues that perhaps some of you don't have. Some of my problems are age related (nearing 70). I'm not sure how I can handle the weight gain again. I felt awful carrying 35 extra pounds around. I'm not exactly a couch potato, but still am not able to do hours of exercize....wish there was some way to keep up my metabolism as mine dropped to the bottom during my other quits. Then there is the sleep thing! Even under normal times, sleep is erratic at best....the Ambian prescription never ends. And when I wasn't smoking, it was 2 hours sleep and two awake, day and night....sure made it hard to function with any kind of schedule.
And of course I think stopping for 10 years might add ten to my life, which would make me 90!
Lordy, Lordy! I'm full of excuses!!!

Welcome back Dot! I hear you about the going back smoking and the weight gain. I was smoke free for 13 months and started again and I think I gained 30 or 40 pounds during my quit. I started smoking again in December of 2003. It took me till September 8 of this year to finally give an honest effort again to quit. I had tried cold turkey a year ago a couple times and this past spring but never was able to do it. I think I was not ready either. I am on the patch now and have had good success. I turned 40 on September 4 and wanted to give myself a special birthday present and it was another try at quitting smoking. The best thing is my husband quit with me this time...he did not the time before.
Anyway, we are here for you. Lets all do this together shall we? Hugs to you Dot!!
I have been quit for 1 Month, 2 Days, 23 hours, 47 minutes and 23 seconds (32 days). I have saved $263.92 by not smoking 1,319 cigarettes. I have saved 4 Days, 13 hours and 55 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 9/8/2005 9:00 PM
Hugs and love,
Karen

Hi Dot and welcome back! I am glad you posted to remind us all to stay ever vigilant in our quits. Sometimes I think I get a little forgetful that I must work to stay quit; I have too much to lose if I "slip up".
I gained a lot of weight too but my doctor told me to do whatever it took to kick the habit. She said I would have to gain 140 pounds (YES, 140!!) to equal the damage my 2 packs a day were causing. So, now I am actively losing the weight because I know I can keep this quit and lose the "chunk" too.
We are here for you!
