The Killing Of An Addiction !! (Anaology) 1/14/2003
Most things in life have a parallel. This evening watching an outdoor channel on the tube I saw how carefully the hunter prepares for his hunt.
The gathering of all the right equipment. Picking the place, and going with the people who will enhance the hunting experience. So many details to be considered. The excitment/fear of going. The excitment/fear of wondering if you will succeed in your adventure (goal). Perhaps you don't even sleep good the night before you are to awake early to be out on the hunting plain befure sun up.
Many people today, I have learned, hunt deer using tree stands. They sit in these stands for hours, waiting.......... not moving, hardly breathing, in odor proof clothing so the deer, with their keen sense of smell won't smell the hunter. Amazing, huh ??
Now ~ let's say our hunter actually accomplishs his goal of "taking an animal".............. do they rush right up, running to check out their conquest. Usually not, because the animal might be only injured. If injured the animal could be extremely dangerous to the hunter at this point. So, very carefully I saw them nudge the animal with their guns to check.
Let's compare our quit of addiction to nicotine to a hunt............. I think without me saying much more you can immediately see the similiarity of the 2 situations. Many parts are the same. One part that caught my attention in particular was where the hunter very very carefully approached his"kill", to be sure it was dead and could do not further harm.
We can take a really good lesson out of this ~ are we checking all the time, especially in the early days of our quit, if Nicodemon is REALLY KILLED ?? (this is where the story separates a bit, because our addiction is FAR from dead). Are we approaching ALL angles of ANY interaction with nicotine very much protected to be sure we will not be harmed
Just something to think about ~ and I apologize if this anaology offended anyone. I just saw the picture so clearly I wanted to share it.
