I remember the LAST time I quit, and I was smoke-free for 2.5 years. There is NO excuse for why I picked them up again so I'm not even going to try and justify why. I have been wanting to quit... in fact, have went in the drug store to look at the different patches (because last time I quit with the help of an online support group like this) and NO patches or gums. The time is yesterday for me to stop again. However, TODAY marks day 1 of the hormone patches I have to take to try to get pregnant. This is our last and final hope for having our own. At my age the only way this can be achieved is by God and In Vitro Fertilization. Day 13 I start the hormone shots as well. On Valentine's day I will be implanted with the last 3 frozen embryos we have left. I am at high risk for blood clots because I've had one from knee injury when I was in my 20s, and because I carry an inherited blood clot gene that makes me susceptible. Needless to say, I have to quit... I think I've had 3 cigs today, but when I'm working it's easier not to smoke. Hormones can also cause blood clots, so the odds are stacked against me re: that. I need help and hope like the last online support group that I can't find anymore (they called cigs the Nicodemon) and like the other little mental things you can do, that helped me. I'm hoping that I can gain some strength from this site through you guys so that I can stop on my own before the embryo transfer. Thanks in advance. Congrats to you quitters and kudos for staying on here and helping others like me to quit. Gena

You did it for 2.5 years, you can do it again. Keep the resolve going and don't smoke. You can do this. Think of the prize.....

Gena welcome to smokebusters. when will you officially quit (choose not to smoke)? today you had 3 smokes, tomorrow perhaps is the day? With the goal you have of getting pregnant.....quitting is a must! There really is no other option is there? Resolve to quit and never pick one up again. NOt easy but it can be done. REad thru all the old posts, ask questions, stay focused on the goal, stay positive, drink lots of water, stay away from the usual triggers, all the things you probably did the first time around. I quit cold turkey...so you can too if that is the best approach. Will quit aids interfere with your goal of getting pregnant? Anyways, best of luck as you endevour to free yourself from the nicodemon. We call him that too! Hurry back. _slim

The creation of a new life is a wonderful reason to quit smoking. You need no more incentive than that. I know it's hard, but look at the prize. Welcome Gena.

You are determined to get pregnant. That same determination is needed to quit as well. It must be a goal that you strive and work hard for. The two concepts are very much related. The interplay between smoking and conception/gestation needs to be in your plans to be pregnant...and you know smoking definitely corrupts all plans. As you say, you've walked on the smokeless path for 2 1/2 years. So, you KNOW you can do this.
Do I dare say "baby steps"?...nah, flush those cigs away, the sooner the better for ALL of you!
