Well, it's been 2 years since I ground out that last cigarette. To all of you who are thinking about quitting, it really is the best thing you can do for yourself. It wasn't always easy and there were many times I thought about lighting up again but I knew losing my quit wouldn't change the stress I was under at any given point in time. There is so much to be gained from quitting and I have noticed that working out really isn't as hard as it seemed 2 years ago. Climbing stairs? Piece of cake. Flying, going to the doctor's, being in a theater, eating in a restaurant...none of these things have to be planned around smoking. (You should have seen me flying to Paris, pre-quit, freaking about when I would finally get off the d*mn plane so I could light up!) When I went to Nicaragua 3 months into my quit, I smirked while my traveling companion agonized over the long flight sans cigarette. I read this morning that there is up to 20% more nicotine in cigarettes these days. Disgusting. How do I plan to celebrate this hard won victory? I am going to call my life insurance agent and tell him I have been a nonsmoker for 2 years now. The hell is short (note it's called hell WEEK, folks!), the rewards are innumerable, so please stop thinking about quitting and "just do it". It truly is the best gift you can give yourself. Quit date: 8/30/04

Thank you for the words of encouragement Elaine. It really is amazing how scared we are to quit, how we cannot imagine life without a cigarette, and yet, once we quit, the landscape changes immediately doesn't it? It's so much nicer on this side.
And the cigarette companies are desparate aren't they? 20% more nicotine to hook the smokers even more...
Keep up the good work Elaine and thanks for sharing with us newbies.

Hey Elaine, I knew you were coming up on 2 years. That just wonderful! From the the first couple weeks when all you think about is smoking or not smoking and how to deal....to the feeling of freedom that you have earned after 2 years quit. Thank you Elaine for sharing and for hanging around with us at smokbusters.
You will definately enjoy that phone call to your agent. How cool! Celebrate for you deserve it _slim
