Just wondering if anyone here has tried (or researched) the latest prescription aid "Chantix". ?? Needless to say, quitting again is still somewhere in the back of my mind. Peace and blessings for the new year. Dot

Hey Dot! Using Chantix right now -- starting on week 2. Hubby tried it first and while he hasn't officially "quit" (he never actually sets a quit date), he said he now goes all day at work without a smoke and really only smokes a few now and then after work out of habit. So I decided to try it as well (I wasn't going to shell out megabucks if it didn't do anything.)
You take them for at least a week before setting a quit date. You start off with .5 mg once a day and then go to twice a day in the middle of the first week. Week 2 you start taking 1 mg twice a day -- that's what I'm doing now. Then you stay on that dosage for several weeks to help with the quit once you actually do it.
I'm only just now (in the middle of week 2) starting to notice some effects. I haven't actually lost the desire to smoke, but have noticed that any cravings really aren't that urgent -- I can easily say, "Nah, I'll have one later." And you don't seem to enjoy it when you actually do smoke; in fact, it can make you feel mildly nauseous sometimes. (If it did that every time it would be really easy!)
One side benefit -- I seem to also not have the urge to eat as much. That could definitely be helpful!
Good luck!
KC

Good to 'see' you again Dot!
I have no knowledge of Chantix so I am of no help to you there. But you know the drill...keep trying! Everyone has a method that works for them. An aid helps the battle even if that aid is a support group. And on that end, there I can help.
Never give up Quitting!

Hello dot and Kc
I do think that aids can help and whatever helps you quit is worth using in my opinion. the quest to give up smoking begins with the end in mind first....then come up with the steps to get there....all the while you have to see it, believe it and want it...badly. You really can become smokefree and clear out your lungs and breathe fresh air and extend your life. I hope to see more of both you around here this beautiful new year!@!

OK...so I called my doctor yesterday, and he called in a prescription for chantix. Off to the drugstore, where I found my insurance (ex-military) won't pay. eeeiiiiii!!! $112.00! So it's for d*** sure I better not be allergic to this as I was to wellbutron! Of course I realize that 2 pks a day are costing me much more than this. So hopefully, in a week or so I'll do it again. I know I can do this....did it before without great trouble. Fortunately, my husband and also my best friend are non-smokers. God grant them patience!!
