I gave great credit to the old just4u board for helping me through my first (and loooong!) quit. So now when I'm trying again, of course this is the place I turned to first. But hey, something isn't right here. Those of you who have stuck around for years offering help are wonderful, of course, but where are those in other stages of quitting? Why do new people come and go so fast, and why don't lurkers speak up?
I know you can't go home again, but I miss the give and take, the laughter and tears and venting. This was once a place to share everything affecting our lives, and doesn't it all come into play when we quit smoking?
Ahh, don't mind me. I just feel like I'm talking to myself. I don't know what the solution might be, but if there are newcomers here, speak up!

The old Just4u was a fun board I will agree. There are many many names I haven't seen in a while. While I can't speak for others, what keeps me coming back here is the bond that forms between soldiers in battle. Well that and coming here keeps me grounded in my quit.
Newbies add spice to the pot. A new flavor and another soul to support. We get lurkers. They should know that we're always happy to meet another quitter!
Dot, you know you are among friends!

I'm here too Dot but frankly, lapsers scare me. But I've given you some thought and realized it was me that was afraid so here I am, facing it. Would you share with me the why of how you fell off the wagon, what made you start smoking again after all that time...how did it happen? How long was it before you quit again?

Flo, the first time I quit was about 8 or 9 years ago, using patches and this board. I was here running my mouth constantly for over 2 years. Why did I relapse? Who knows? I just decided I wanted to smoke again. So after another year of smoking, I quit again for a year or so, and then same thing....back at it. Well, here I go again. I know I'm too old now to gain much healthwise, but I get really tired of the expense. Also, it's so aggrivating to have to hunt for a place to smoke, and being limited where I can go and who I can visit.
I didn't mean to be such a grouch about this board (but I'm at the grouchy stange anyway), but "way back when" there was constant participation that is lacking here. As Don said, we need newbies....they keep us on our toes. But also, there was usually a discussion about other life issues here, anything that affected our quits for good or worse.
I know all the old timers can't stay here forever. But I'd sure like to see some new faces and share some support.
I've been going to Quitnet this time also. It's such a large group that is is almost overwhelming, but support comes instantly when asked for.
Dot, doing well on day 17

Oh Dot, one of the tenets I recall of the old Just4U was a "Take what you need" policy from the board and that visiting other boards was highly encouraged. So, you do yourself well to be checking Quitnet for what you need. The end result of being Quit was the goal we all had for each other, no matter what the source. And I think this is still true.
This Internet thing is a darn good tool! Use it! Use whatever aid you can find to fight this addiction inside us all. I haven't regretted(sp?) seeking out help when I was 2 weeks quit and wondering if there were others out there who could help me stay quit. What an marvelous journey it has been.
