Hey all,
Just thought I'd say hi, I've been trying to overcome this smoking thing for some time now, and have been disgusting myself on a daily basis for the last two years now.
I've smoked for twenty years and my wife had our first (and probably only) child last September. I don't need to tell any of you parents on here what you already know in regards to what happens inside you with your first child.
He lights me up every day with that smile, and brings new meaning to an otherwise common word. Life.
I've prayed, chewed and glued myself in the past to try and quit, and I can only describe it as mind numbing with periods of internal rage that has occasionally slipped out, usually to the unfortunate expense of some small item being hurled across the room.
I'm angry right now. I have a doctors appointment in an hour to discuss options (I've never taken any of the aids in pill form) I've been having a hard time breathing the last few weeks and haven't told my wife. I made the doc appointment in hopes he's going to tell me "This is it dummy, this may be your last chance to quit"...
It's nice to know there's a forum for this and I look forward to diving into some of these threads and reading up this evening.
Thanks.

Welcome, Trimmer.
It takes awhile to overcome the physical and mental addiction of smoking, but if you stick with it, you will be successful.
Congratulations on the birth of your child!

Welcome new guy. New quits are good for all of us, to remind us of why we are on this site.
Why not go to the cancer clinic and see some patients with lung cancer or why not do a search on the net for the same.
That's what it comes down to doesn't it. Craves won't kill you but cigarettes will. It's simple. Keep that fact front and centre and that should keep you on the path.
Remember, you can do whatever you like - just don't take that puff.
Keep reading all the great articles on this site as well as other sites. Check in daily and get to know us and let us get to know you.
Welcome aboard.

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. I'm familiar with other "stay stopped" programs and it is actually nice to know basically the same principles apply. That never really occured to me for what ever reason, but then again this is the hardest fight I've ever fought, and I can see now that a large part of the dificulty in quitting is that smoking cigarettes isn't illegal, therefore a bit easier to justify.
I went to the doc this morning and he said I looked, sounded healthy and in good shape, now let's gid rid of the cigs.
I'm going to try the Chantix against every instinct in me that says it's not going to work, but I've had the will in my head and my heart for awhile now, so we'll see how it goes.
I'll most definitely be checking back to this site once I have my last. You guys are going to be sick of me!
Thanks again.

Hey look...it's the New Guy!!! Welcome Trimmer That would be a huge feat to wear us out.. Like to see you try! See we love newbies streaming there inner self on the bb. We can assure you that NOT Smoking is hard when your an addict but you can make it. I was the guy who didn't think he could quit since i failed so many times before. The quit that sticks can take you by surprise...depending on alot of things.. not the least being your attitude and committment to staying quit. Read and learn NG, you can't be to prepared and mentally ready for a successful quit. But don't wait for the perfect day and time...set a quit date soon! Quit for yourself first and then for your family...both of you will benefit. Glad to hear that your physically fine and now all you have to do is tell your head that your quitting no matter what! BTW, I quit cold turkey. Aids are great but in the end you have to take responsibilty for your quit. Hope to see you soon
