We went out tonite for the rare sit down restaurant dining experience and as I was walking by the front door, noticed all of the butts lying on the ground by the door. Seems the establishment did away with the doorway ashtray. Ah but those smokers always know to leave your butts by the door. What a pleasant sight!
I even watched a local cop toss a cig out of his window.
The things an ex-smoker notices.....

I think it's funny how i can tell if the guy 3 cars up in line going 50 MPH is smoking.....I never thought the smell would carry so much.

We were visiting the in-laws for the week, and in Wisconsin still have smoking sections in their restaurants. Ohio does not and the first time they said "smoking or not smoking" my hubby and I looked at each other before answering non smoking. We haven't said that for close to a year.

October 1 in Minnesota no smoking in bars, cabs, and even transit stations. I am so glad I am not smoking anymore. Also July 1 was the date that campus wide went no smoking outside. We have not been able to smoke inside for years at the hospital but not it is outside and the city code says within 100 feet of the campus. So there will be some that are pretty frustrated. You cannot even go in your car if it is parked in the parking lot at the campus and smoke. I would have been the one running 3 blocks away to smoke LOL if I were still smoking. Thank God I don't have to deal with that anymore.

I hear what you're saying Karen. There is a law in the works here that will stop smoking in the outdoor patio areas - as well as doorways - and I would have joined you in running those 3 blocks for a smoke! It is interesting that these things won't stop a smoker. I know it wouldn't have stopped me. But it's all over for me now and I am grateful each day, each moment, that I no longer have that monkey on my back.
I also have to comment on Don's observation of all those butts in front of the restaurant. How very rude. It doesn't help smokers to do things like that. If they would take the initiative and smoke away from the doors so others can go in without having to wear a gas mask, it would help their public relations so much. Oh well, it's not my problem any more. Thank heavens.
