She was a good dog....very loyal to our family and my wife loved that Dog more than me i think. She is now happy in that place where dogs can run and chase balls all day and not get tired and of course always food in her bowl. Man did she love to eat! I really am fine since she was very sick with bone cancer ... it was her time, but my family could use a kind thought. Thanks

Hi Slim,
What a gorgeous, gorgeous animal. I love animals and I definitely can feel your sorrow. On July 2nd we had to euthanize our cat who was 17 and also had cancer. He was the last of three, each living to about 17 years. I guess time will help, Slim, but I have never figured out how to get over losing a pet. The only thought that helps is, like you mentioned, they are not suffering any longer. Prayers go out to your family.
Vanessa

My heart goes out to your family, this is like losing a family member. We've put down two beloved pets with hip problems and it's never easy seeing them in pain. The kids grew up with this pet in their lives, the wife probably was the one who interacted with the dog the most and will hit her harder. Sending good thoughts and a prayer your way.

Slim........ I'm an animal lover so I feel that special tug of pain when I hear about these things. But I also know that some things are inevitable and keeping that promise to limit suffering for the animal leads to suffering of the humans. I feel for you Slim also because my Sockhound has been getting up there. For the past month I've been carrying her up the stairs each night. Friday The Wife rushed the dog to the vet for another $400 dog bill...we've been thru this a lot...but you never really know when 'the time' has come. For the past year we've been registered with different dog shelters trying to get another golden to help ease our transition when the time comes. The shelters haven't worked out for us and in a little over a week we pick up "Cody" from a breeder we've been working with the last couple of months. When I was younger and we lost a dog, my mother insisted on a year of rememberance and refrained from getting another. It was a very sad year. Pets fill a place in our lives where we put our love into and when the pet is gone, a hole remains and our love just never seems to be able to fill it in. Don't let some notion of rememberance or duty prevent you from having something to put your love into. You have good memories of her and those are the things you need to keep. Best wishes.

I am also an animal lover so I know what you are going through. We had to have 2 dogs put down last year and it was hard. Kelly was our Irish Setter always slept on a doggie blanket I made him by my bedside. The other dog was small and slept on a blanket on the couch. I still miss them alot. My son gave me a schnauzer puppy and that helped . It just takes time I think

My deepest condolences Slim. I too am an animal lover and truly believe they are 'people' too. They have feelings, they have preferences, they have thoughts. They are truly noble and wonderful creatures and keep us humans connected to the magic. I agree with Don. Adopt a dog from the shelter, one that has been mistreated and needs some love and attention that you have so much of. Carry the love your dog taught you forward.

Slim, I am so sorry to hear about your dog. As others have stated, our pets are family. The pain runs deep when we lose one. However, it may even be harder to watch them suffer. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.
