While I do have a diminished sense of smell that I blame on the smoking years, the sense of smell that I do still have gives me profound joy. Such as this morning as I'm driving to work between cornfields and can pick up the sweet smell of pollen from the cornstalks. Although I was a city boy, my parents spent 11 years of weekends in the then 'country' building the house they have now retired to. This corn smell is one of those ingrained happy-memory things of a kid running merrily thru the fields.
So much better to be able to smell things "unsmoked".

Right on Don. I couldn't agree with you more. When I smoked, I hardly smelled anything except smoke which I was always monitoring on myself so I wouldn't be too obvious. My mother has a nose like a bloodhound - honestly - too late did we realize that she could have worked in one of those perfume manufacturing places - like Dior - where they look for these people with the extra sniffer ability to test out scents. She could smell me a block away and know I was smoking.
I bought some sachets this weekend to scent my place and it is a gentle subtle scent but with my new sense of smell, it is such a pleasure. Nothing like the smell of the country but still, the sense of smell is one of life's pleasures indeed.
I find that my stamina has greatly improved, my breathing has improved. I no longer cough as much, just the odd time to remind me. I am calmer and as a result, my performance at work has greatly improved. My skin looks radiant - not the sallow look I had before...there are so many benefits - not to mention the extra cash - as you said Don, $9.50 be it US or Cdn is serious money and it really puts a dent in one's budget.
Yes, it just gets better and better doesn't it? All you lurkers, try it. You won't regret it.
