I posted this in another forum and am too tired to type a new post so am copying and pasting today LOL. So here goes.
I have not been posting on here recently as my husband ended up in the hospital for 8 days. He had a partial knee replacement on July 14, came home the 15th and was doing well at home and with PT outpatient. On July 25 he woke up in excruciating pain and ended up going to Emergency that evening. We went to one Emergency and got sent to the other. He was admitted on the 25th and on July 26 he went back to surgery and had a lot of puss taken out of his knee and his new meniscus taken out and sterilized and put back in, along with antibiotic beads, and they left the incision open and put a splint on him and aced him and back to his room he went. All the while, IV antibiotics and pain pills, etc. Plus, they did blood cultures the day of admission. July 30 he went back to surgery to have the beads taken out and they took out the lining of his knee and cleaned it, cleaned the plastic separator, and stapled and stitched him back up. He know has a bigger incision. He caught STAPH some how before the second hospitalization and that is why things went downhill that Friday the 25th of July. He is home now and has IV therapy for 6 weeks followed by 4 months of pill antibiotics as they want to save the joint. He will also have home health aide out once a week, PT at our house and OT at our house.
I was off of work most first week after surgery and 5 days of the second week after the first surgery and had to go back on a 7 day stretch the day after he was admitted to the second hospital. Suffice it to say, with working full time, being there for surgeries and visiting twice a day except the day before discharge, I was bushed. Plus our son was home alone most of the time. He is 13 and was sooooo good and took good care of our dogs and the house. I am very proud of him.
Anyways, that is why I have not been the for several days Kaylor has not been on longer then that. He gets around with a walker for now and uses a crutch to get up and down stairs.
It has been a scary time for us as they said if they had not caught this until later, that they would have had to scrap the first surgery and do it again 6 weeks later, but also they were worried about losing the joint.
Say some prayerys for my hubby. We are all very tired here but that which doesn't kill us makes us stronger. The one nice thing that came in the mail today was the insurance statement for the hospital he had the partial knee replacement it and it said patient responsibility - $0.00!!!!!!!!!!!
