It`s so good to be free of the cigs, one day at a time. I can easily do `one day at a time` things I couldn`t bear to think of doing for a lifetime. I don`t like advice much. I`m just a sober drunk and a smoke-free nicotine addict. But I`m going to make an exception and give you some advice today. And that advice is to never overlook the power in that simple little saying. During hell week, I found it hard to even make it one day at a time. I found that it is perfectly acceptable to go one hour at a time, just until the next TV commercial, or even one minute at a time. Just don`t smoke for that interval! And as the adventure unfolds, you`ll find that one day at a time is about a whole lot more than just not smoking or drinking. Its a way of life. And a dang good one at that.
It`s simple really. Breath in...breath out...don`t smoke between breaths! Repeat as necessary. And for today, and just for today, I just plain don`t smoke. If the Marlboro truck collides with the Jim Beam truck in my front yard, I still refuse to smoke or drink, just for today. Tomorrow may be different. I`ll worry about that if, and when, tomorrow comes.
I can`t do anything about tomorrow. Its not here yet.
I can`t do anything about yesterday. Its already gone.
And so I am left with today. And I intend to be a WINNER today.
Don`t take that first puff, one day at a time, and it is IMPOSSIBLE to fail.
Don`t take that first puff, just for today, and you will absolutely, positively, be 100% guaranteed to go to bed as a WINNER tonight!
It really is that simple. Really!
