I read your reply in another thread, and wanted to say hello. (You were wondering about our reasons for quitting.) After smoking for about 50 years, with only one long quit, I was so tired of feeling like I had some dirty disease, and having to leave things and go out to find a place to hide and smoke. I got tired of the planning....can I smoke in this group? Will there be a place to go outside? Does the motel have smoking rooms....the restuarant a smoking area? There are people I want to visit for a day or a week. What can I possibly do? I live in a place (NC)where smoking is still comparatively cheap, but smoking 2+ packs a day still took a couple of hundred dollars out of my checkbook every month. Also, cancer is a big killer in my family.
I see you had joined this group a couple of month ago. Did you quit already, or just in the planning stage. Let us know about you!
Dot Eleven months, one week, three days, 22 hours, 49 minutes and 8 seconds. 13878 cigarettes not smoked, saving $1,734.75. Life saved: 6 weeks, 6 days, 4 hours, 30 minutes.

Good question Kaytee
I think we all have our own stories as to the process of quitting. I "tried" to quit for years before actually doing it...i believe that is most smokers stories. 'I have been trying to quit for 10 years...and i never seem to make it stick ' When someone says to you they will try and make it over for your party....do they ever show up? not usually! I think the first thing is to set a date to quit and say " i am going to quit on this day" Putting things in writing seems so serious for many folks, so i say put your reasons for quitting in writing...along with your quit date and commitment to yourself and family-friends that smokingi isnt going to control you any longer. Get a little angry...get mad....get determined and most of all get prepared!
I was tired of saying i quit and then a day later becoming a closet smoker. I would have to hide to smoke and find ways to keep the smell off me...never worked...i was kidding myself. Not to mention i was not feeling well, worried about serious illness...and that was what i guess i needed to go thru in order to quit and stay quit. I am perfectly fine now and feel very good about quitting and living a much healthier lifestyle. I am learning how to live without the smokes and that is a process. It does take some time...but not nearly as long as the number of years i smoked. It's your story Kaytee...and you need to write it...start soon ok Post here often for best results....we can help _slim 6/11/2001
