The roll is called!
Here I am in New Orleans for our annual legal trade show. The usual stress but such is life. It's a little chilly for these parts, but it's nice to stare at some palm trees.
How be our fellow SmokeBusters?

we went up past the Mackinaw bridge Saturday night and it was snowing up there. Couldn't beleive my eyes. Glad I don't smoke but it was a little inconvenient for hubby. Didn't stop him though.

Hello everyone! Just got back from the prairies, Winnipeg Manitoba. I had to fly out on an emergency basis as my cuz was diagnosed last Thursday with terminal cancer. She has anywhere from 2 days to 2 months. Everyone in the family responded. Huge turnout. Everyone just dropped everything and came a runnin. It really heartened her. She's in her 50s and tiny as a bug. She has loved horses all her life and as soon as she graduated from high school she bought a horse and she was off to the races. Literally. She has been in that world ever since. She doesn't drink or fool around with lots of men and worked hard and is now a trainer and well respected. She has had a great career. She just got married about 3-4 years ago to another trainer who she's know for many years now (they dated when they were 21 or so and then they never saw each other until they met again this time and all the stars were aligned for them). Anyhow, they just sold their home in Montana and were set to do the racing circuit in a 5th wheel (lux edition) and then she got some sharp pains so she went to the doctor. Needless to say they are still reeling from the news. She called home last Thursday and said she was coming home to spend her last days with the family.
Though she isn't a drinker, she is a smoker. She and her husband just quit two months ago. I said that was still a good thing as it will really help her now that she can use every ounce of strength she has.
Anyhow, I digress or do I....
Winnipeg was cold and windy, hitting zero in the morning on Tuesday...but coming back to Vancouver, it is mild and sunny out and promises to be so for the week, going up to a nice seasonal warmth by the weekend.
I actually really liked being in Winnipeg. It's like a big small town and the people are really friendly and the air is really dry. My allergies went away while I was there. And when the sun came out, it was fabulous. It has this crisp sunny thing to it that I really responded to. Invigourating! Yet, the last day, taking a long walk around the neighbourhood before leaving for the airport, I came to realize that I love it here in Vancouver and I like the big city - it's stimulating and sophisticated - and the natural setting is quite spectacular. Of course, on landing just at dusk, Vancouver was at it's finest, with pastels and flowers and rolling mountains and sea and rivers and boats and ... really beautiful. One should go away more in order to appreciate what you have.
Don, I love New Orleans. How is the grand city doing after Katrina?
