ALTERNATIVES
1. Drink more water
2. Have sex
3. Go for a walk in the rain
4. Find some flora to sniff (i love rosemary and roses)
5. Post here.
6. Have a hot bath by candlelight
7. Go swimming
8. Wipe the cobwebs of the exercise equipment and use it.
9. Do the ironing and watch a movie at the same time. (Do not try answering a phone during hell week at the same time, or you may burn your ear)
10. Clean the entire house.
11. Start a garden
12. See if you still know how to ride a bike.
13. Suck a lollypop
14. Go to a movie. If you make it a kid's movie you can be certain that if there is any smoking, it'll only be the baddies.
15. Read a book in bed while it rains.
16. Try a complex fat free recipe and then eat it all by yourself.
17. Spend the day not wearing underwear (this won't help you to not smoke but it can be fun anyway)
18. Write out again why you don't want to smoke.
19. Find out about meditation and try it.
20. Put on a cd and sing along really really loud.
21. I love smelling and burning candles! room fresheners
22. I like "don't worry...be happy"! Guess we could try dancing with the vacuum cleaner while doing #17 and singing at the top of our lungs to boot. LOL
23. I have something I have been thinking about. I'm going to start walking and I was thinking of keeping track of my miles and then adding them up each week or so and see where in the world I would be now. How long would it take to walk from down around the coast of Texas to Australia do you think??? Worth a try!!!

25. Take the money you would spend each day on cigs, and buy lottery tickets.(I thought of this one this morning on my way to work, I am going to start doing this one. Just think, even if you win a few thousand $$$$ what a return on you no smoking investment)

27. Lay down, close your eyes, take deep deep breaths until you calm down. Doesn't take long to feel better. A couple of minutes.
28. Break out your old crayolas and color!
29. Wash your car! Don't you just love having a car that smells good?
30. Write a letter or card to a friend that you haven't talked to for a while!
31. Take a long wonderful hike!
32. research all of the intersesting things to do in the area that you live in on the internet...and try a few of them!
33. Alphabetize the canned foods in your kitchen cabinets...
34. I'll do some exercise scenarios, and some social action scenarios:
35. Go for a walk by the seaside, or other body of water. Listen to the wind and waves.
36. Swim as far as you can. No way can anyone smoke and swim simultaneously
37. Walk/jog/run at your target heart rate. Sweat lots - you'll be too wet to smoke.
38. Pump iron - build upper body strength
39. Buy a Heart Rate Monitor with your saved money - track your progress
40. Before you eat a chocolate/candy/bag of M&M's visualize how far you'd have to go on a treadmill to
41. get rid of that many calories
42. Notwithstanding the above, eat a bag of M&M's in bed. (Yes, it's a bit naughty, but quite harmless.)
43. Buy nifty exercise clothes
44. Get a new hair cut, have your hair restored to its natural colour!
45. To replace hand habits related to smoking, manicure your nails beautifully. Do your finger nails and your toe nails - yes, men can do this too!
46. Now, just to counter any narcissistic trends, also do the following:
47. Phone a friend you haven't seen for a while, just to say hi and catch up.
48. Find something in your neighbourhood that could stand improvement. Figure out how it could be done. Let your local city councillor know about it - phone him or her to discuss it.
49. Go through your closet, picking out clothes you haven't worn in the past 12 months. Get them cleaned and take them to your local women's shelter/ men's shelter
50. Be friendly to a young person.
51. Write a letter to a politician, expressing your views on tobacco control.
52. Make it a point to write at least 3 supportive posts to the Q each day.
53. Give unstinting support to friends with their troubles. What goes around, comes around.
54. Direct any anger that comes from quitting smoking toward constructive solutions to issues that count: e.g., tobacco control, or other social and economic issues that would benefit from your attention and involvement - become an active citizen
55. Patronize businesses that are smoke-free.
56. Boycott tobacco company products; e.g., Kraft Foods, Shoppers Drug Mart (in Canada)
57. get a full body massage - get lots of them!
58. Aromatherapy -
59. Spend hours in the local mega-bookstore, finding a new author to devour or a craft/hobby to adopt
60. Write poetry
61. Keep a journal
62. Read something thought provoking
63. Then try to explain it to someone
64. Adopt a cause - rainforest, endangered species, etc.
65. Renovate a room (later in the quit)
66. Mend a fence (from early in the quit when we are so quick to settle a score)
67. Play in intricate, involved, massive computer game
68. Blow bubbles out your back door
69. Join your neighborhood watch group
70. Volunteer
71. Jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, and word games
72. Publish a book of recipes for celery sticks
73. Go to the local pound and adopt something that already knows what unconditional love is all about
74. Take kids to the zoo
75. Take yourself to the zoo
76. Master the art of slinky
