When my Mom died of liver cancer almost 4 years ago, I was in charge of her "eulogy"-- is that spelled right? anyway, fun it was not! In thinking about my mom and who she was, one thing everyone knew about her that she was habitually making little lists- post-it notes everywhere! Of things she didn't want to forget, need to do lists, need to buy lists- and being the "motherly" (pushy!) person she was- she made them for everyone else, too--
Soooo-- anyway-- Instead of a eulogy, i wrote her a list ..a list of life lessons she taught me--. and i want to re-write it down here and give it to all of you......
KEEP THOSE QUITS !
Lesli's Story About Lynne's Lists
My Mom was forever asking us all to make a list of things we need to do. She herself made more lists than anyone i have ever known- so as she leaves us here is her last list for the rest of us...
1. Make lists. It helps un-jumble your thoughts and gets your day organized. You have so very many days after all- better keep em straight.
2. There is no one in this world who does not deserve your attention. Everyone you come in contact with in this life deserves respect.
3. Live your life in service of those less fortunate than yourself
4. Being human- we are comforted by familiar things. Surround yourself with things that soothe the eye- and the soul is soothed also- at the end of the day you can relax easier.
5. Nap! Nap! Nap! Especially during rainstorms.
6. Is something does not satisfy you, or is not done to your expectations, let that person know in a gentle way. They will appreciate your observation and know to do better next time.
7. If you love something someone else has done or made, learn to do it yourself.
8. In every crisis, someone will be there for you. Wether you know they are there or not.
9. Pray for your friends. They are your friends after all, and they probably do it for you.
10. Tell a funny story. Tell it with feeling and much animation. It captivates your audience and they will always enjoy hearing you talk.
11. Ask others about themselves. It makes them feel listened to, and everyone wants to be heard.
12. Very soft, worn out things are best for sleeping on.
13. Goos smells equal good memories.
14. A shoe with a good arch support will take you much farther than one that simply looks "cool".
15. Have your OWN style and sense of what is attractive. Other's opinions are their own and have nothing to do with your personal sense of aesthetics
16. Its a good idea to always have a project to work on- wether its art or craft, it occupies the time and soothes the mind.
17. People need to be told they are special, and that they are loved. People also have short, selective memories so they need to be told this often.
18. Two things you should never have to tell your spouse are: 1) what you do with your money 2) your true hair color
19. A card or letter, or package filled with little things will always brighten someones day. Dont wait for a holiday to do this.
20. Be HAPPY. Make sure YOU get a turn. Make sure you spend your life doing what is right for YOU. YOU are the star of YOUR show!!!
Thank you Mom. I miss you. Love Lesli
