Seeing Both Sides Of the Coin
Cancer And Death
For the past two years I have been helping to take care of a dear neighbor and friend. He is not an old man in fact he has hardly lived yet he is fifty five years old, yes I said fifty five. I want to share a little of his story with you, since he asked if I would.. He started smoking in the services as a young man, he has been disabled now for several years. He smoked up to three packs a day. Even when put on oxygen to help him to breathe. He still was not strong enough to give up that awful cigarette even knowing it was killing him. When I first started to help him, he would still go out every morning for breakfast, this he has not done in a year in an four months. The only time he gets out on is if the ambulance comes to take him to the hospital. His doctors told him he could live one more day or be dead in a year. I have seen both sides of this coin, watching him getting weaker and more scared with each attack.. I have watched his three children, and grand children suffer with each trip he takes. Where there was once hope in there eyes, I now see fear and despair for they do not want to lose there father , yet they no longer want him to suffer. This last trip ( Tuesday) I sat and cried with his older daughter got dads hand written wishes out for her. Having to tell her it can no longer be but off she needs to get this typed up, witnessed and signed. To see the pain this family is going through and knowing there is nothing any one can do to stop it. For my neighbor each day is a struggle just to sit up and get out of bed. I feed his dogs, take care of his yard, shop for him and much more. He has tried to pay me for this but I refuse for this is what a true friend and good neighbor should do for one an other, At least this is my believe. What he wants you to know is, if you are quit stay quit if you are Tring too quit keep tring. It is not worth all the pain and suffering you and your family well go through. He struggles for each breath he takes and panics when he can not pull in enough oxygen. As he says being put on a machine to breathe for you is no fun either, as you lay there watching your children cry and feel there pain too. He wonders why he did not do something sooner. Yes he still smokes and well not stop, but now he is down to a half a pack a day, not by choice he just can not smoke no more then that any more. So now he ask all of you to think of this next time you lite up, you are killing your self and causing unneeded pain for your loved ones who well have to watch you die a slow painful death such as his!!!! He feels that we all expect to die sometime and so our kids expect us to. But why should they have to suffer with us for years and watch us die this why because we was not smarted then that cigarette?
So have a wonderful smoke free day everyone
