Amazing how the Internet can connect perfect strangers together. Using this same construct, I must pass on some information to all of you.
When our smoking forum located at Southbeachfriend.com went Missing In Action earlier this year several of us tried to locate the administrator there named Al Silverberg.
During my search I had found Al had 4 web sites he tended to. And as part of my search I sent requests out to the email addresses associated with those sites. I had no responses from those requests. Southbeach became available again after a 2 month blackout without any notice. Then it went missing again back in the end of June, due to the contract on it’s domain name expiring. That was strange I thought, why did Al not renew the name. (As it stands right now, the name is in “Redemption Period”.) I assumed that Al probably saw that we had migrated here to ProBoards and figured it wasn’t worth supporting the Southbeach site without our traffic.
Last night I receive a short and mysterious email sent to my home account mentioning Al Silverberg in it’s subject line. Not my usual dose of Spam. The message was simple:
“Call me asap, Jeff Atlas.” Along with a number to call.
I called this morning. Jeff Atlas turned out to be the brother in law of Al. Thru him I have learned of sad news to some of us: Al had passed away in March. He was enjoying life and dancing when he had a sudden heart attack.
They were going thru all of his email when they came across my requests.
Mr. Atlas informs me that they are having a library wing dedication at Positive Connections in North Miami, FL on Friday September 17th at 7:30 (pm?).
Positive Connections can be reached at: www.positiveconnections.org/contact.htm
Mr. Atlas also said that anyone who would like to contact him about Al or about what to do with his websites can reach him by email or phone.
Out of respect for privacy, I will make this information available to anyone who wants this, just send me an email or private message.
At funeral wakes, people gather to talk about the life of the deceased and how it sometime touched them. For me, I came to know Al via the smoking forums at Just4u.com. Without that place, I can’t say for sure if I could still be smokeless right now. THANKS AL!
I also remember the side forum discussing illnesses and I believe Al lost a son due to one.
Maybe others can correct me, or provide their thoughts onto this cyber wake.
