G'morning Jack!
Welcome to the group. And what a group we be! Smokers and x-smokers all fighting some inner drive like lemmings over a cliff.
Addiction is a strong force to deal with. But addiction has a weakness, it doesn't have stamina. To beat an addiction, you have to outlast it. The longer you deny the beast of nicotine, the weaker it gets. (Although there will be times when you think the opposite were true.) You can do this Jack, you really can!
You should also consider quit-aids in this battle. Gum, patches, pills, hypnotism etc.. Any little edge to help you defeat the craves when they come.
Are you considering a specific date to quit?

Or just get educated here and you will develope the courage to set a quit date soon. WE all smoked before so we understand.

Jack, welcome. Read, learn, get determined, and go for it. If the 1st try doesn't work, try again, until it sticks.
Good luck

Hi Jack, I'm new too. I quit on Sunday. So far so good. I use the gum. It works really well for me. It is a very positive thing that you found this board. It really shows that you want to and are thinking about quitting. It is a great support tool for me, and the people are really nice. Hope to "see" you around!

I want to thank you all for taking the time to greet me, I will appreciate all the help I can get, it looks like for ounce in my life...this Quiting is gona be a real challenge.
It doesn't appear that it is something one just gets up in the morning and decides to do.
I guess the battle I fight with it will be one of the worse I have fought.
I am not here to impress anyone at all, I am here to learn from you how to quit.
Oh yes I am sure I can lay them down and walk out the door and and hour later I will feel like a coward on the battle front, dropping my rifle and running to get a cig.
I will set a date or incident...and then I will need support.
There is not much compassion out there for people who "smoke."
Thank You
Jack

You’re right Jack, most quitters don’t just decide one morning to give up tobacco. Quitting is a process that usually takes the quitter from a wannabe, to a newbe, to a veteran of smokelessness. You’re right too about it not being an easy transition. Remember that quitting smoking is a process, not an event.
Quitting takes patience, determination, and effort. Quitting also requires lots of support which is why we’re all here. Stick with it because once you’ve tossed the smokes, stand by for a ride that’s beyond belief. Yep, you’ll have tough moments….lots of them. But with each victory, you’ll find yourself standing taller and taller. The effort required is great, but the rewards are even greater.
You’ll need a game plan…..i.e., keeping yourself busy during the first few days of your quit. You’ll need some ideas/actions to pursue when the beast comes knocking. What will you do when the craves strike? What are you going to do when someone close to you lights up? Lots of mind games, lots of physical hurdles to clear……. But you can do this because you’ve come to the right place for support. Welcome!
