A real commitment to stopping smoking for me has meant that somehow my mind shut down the cravings. Cant really explain, but when I am going through stressful times or other triggers occur, the thought of having a sickarette is not there anymore, not an option, and my thinking simply seems to bypass that possibility and tries to work out how I am going to deal with the stress or whatever. It feels like a miracle but I suppose in reality it is commitment. The only time I have a smoking thought is from triggers, which pop up from my unconscious mind; e.g. if you change to a different car you always go for the indicator and get the screen wipers; so very occasionally because I did it for 35 years, I reach for a smoke on certain cues and then remember I have stopped, but it only lasts a millisecond. Commitment is great because it wipes out the smoking option and a lot of the pain of stopping. Rambling a lot only just woke up this morning!
