I know Bev and Vince both lost there quits at some point. It would be nice if they came back and quit again. Both were great at communicating!

Welcome Christene,
I was just in KY for New Years - the Bowling Green area. Can't say your smokes are 5 dollars a pack like here in MI, yet they kill people just the same. It's hard to see the light down the road on day 1 but you can quit one hour at a time....set small goals and committ yourself a little at time. The aids will help you along but your attiude and determination are even more important.
We can help you along and don't hesitate to research here for answers or just ask us questions. Lets get to day 2 and be sure post your feelings.

You are doing the right things Barb
better to come here and vent than smoke....usually by the time you get done reading and posting you feel better. Just keep saying to your self that no matter what, smoking is NOT an option!
I believe that it's ok to want to smoke just don't do it ;-)
Look but don't touch LOL
hey...that sounds familiar

I quit cold turkey at least no NRT's. I put the patch on for day 1 and it just didn't feel right. I took it off and went CT. Hell week was Hell week! But my satisfaction was I knew the nicotine was out of my body after a week or so. I drank lots ( I mean lots) of water and cut back on coffee and drank more tea. To this day I drink way less coffee.
My challenge was nervous and anxious feelings I wanted to smoke so bad early on. I slept alot (or tossed and turned) and stayed away from known triggers as much as I could. Eventually I broke down and would go to sleep with a zanax (or broke in half zanax)..which took the edge off. I needed to relax and couldn't so the zanax helped.... It allowed me to think about nothing instead of worrying about everything. I only was on zanax on and off for 2 months. To know me is to understand that I am naturally a nervous person with lots of inner nrg ( leg boucing, foot tapping, can't sit still) you know that guy LOL For that reason I thought I could never quit and yet here I am at...
3 Years 6 Months 3 Weeks 6 Days 1 Hour 22 Minutes 53 Seconds. Cigarettes not smoked: 39181. Money saved: $7,836.35. Time/Life saved: 8 Mos 4 Wks 2 Hrs 17 Mins 16 Secs

I didn't cough to much during my quit or cough up alot of stuff. I was surprised by that as well. I did have quit zits and poor sleep patterns and many other wierd things. Every once in while I did seem to cough up a little and I also had a sour throat for some time. Went to an ENT doctor to check on things, and he called it drainage or post nasel drip. I have also been diagnosed with a mild case of gerd and have occasional heartburn....not sure if any of this is related to smoking and quitting....never had it before tho.
I expect things will continue to get better and better as my body heals it self from years of smoking. yours will too!

I think attitude is mostly the reason for success or failure. You are gearing up for success! I quit cold turkey as you know, but I did notice many improvments after quitting i.e. like no more 'ahem' in my every sentence. My lower back and neck still bother me now and again....I think that is lack of exercise tho Have you every tried taking Glucosamine supplements?

The snow all melted over New years and now it's BACK! Snowing hard and furious, the roads are slippery and dangerous.
It relates to our addiction....one day it's cool - the beast sleeps, the sun is shining, the road to smobriety seems easy, and then out of nowhere it's a storming again, craves that move the earth,I NEED to SMOKE... Oh man I only need one and then I will quit....do not be temped. Smoking won't make you feel better, won't shovel the drive way for you, it won't give you NRG, it won't calm you, it won't help you think, it won't digest your food, it won't improve your phone calls, it won't help you drive better, it won't give you any satisfaction, it won't cure your boredom or make the kids behave and it certainly isn't any kind of reward I would want...cause it kills people...people like you and I, and we must fight the good fight and keep on keeping on....smoking isn't an option anymore. You can't ignore the facts, you can't brush them off anymore for it's everywhere....smoking kills. You know people that have died from smoking relates illness ....Keep the quit or Just QUIT IF YOU ARE LURKING. I beg you!
The beast is a bad guy, isn't he!!! He makes me mad, I hope he makes you mad enought to quit and stay quit!
My brother in law has a lump on his neck... he smokes alot and is a great guy, husband and father of 2 beautiful children. They say it is a tumor on the tonsil. That was my biggest fear when I quit smoking and he is going to live it. Say a little prayer for him and God willing they will get it all or it will be non cancerous.
