One of the things that happened to me when I quit smoking back in 2002 and 2003 is that I gained massive amounts of weight. What I realized, too, was that I was snacking more. I get lots of walking in on my job but did not stay active once I got home. Spent a lot of time sitting at the computer in fact. This time I need to get back into walking again and getting plenty of excercise and eating right. Not shoving food in my face to replace the nicotine.
Love,
Karen

Karen, you are right. Food will not replace nicotine, just as nicotine cannot replace food. I hear ya about weight gain. I haven't gained any with this quit, but I didn't lose any weight from my last quit, so still pudgy. Oh well, at least I don't smoke. Yeah!

I have gained an alarming amount of weight in 4 mths. I couldn't even get out of the tub last night! I'm gonna need one of those handrails on the wall like gramma has...For some reason it's not sinking in, I keep thinking it will just go away and feel like it's not really me. I have been feeding my feelings not my hunger. My appetite is huge. I've even been thinking of getting some kind of appetite suppressant. I can see the shock on peoples faces when they see me. Since I'm starting to feel like a really bad example of what quitting can do to your weight I'm taking action. Been on track the last couple of days and feel better already. My mood is great too!

I'm concerned also. I am already fairly over weight. I am 5 '9 and weigh 255 lbs. I feel my pants getting tighter over the past week or so, but I am afraid to get on the scale! I don't really want to know at this point. I have been downing tons of water, Hopefully that helps....

My plan this time around is to get plenty of exercise and eat better. If I do snack, it can be something healthy and I am definitely drinking more water with this quit and that seems to fill me up a little more.
I have been quit for 6 Days, 19 hours, 46 minutes and 4 seconds (6 days). I have saved $54.58 by not smoking 272 cigarettes. I have saved 22 hours and 40 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 9/8/2005 9:00 PM
Hugs and love,
Karen

Well, I looked at my weight and since I have quit smoking over 2 weeks ago, I gained 4 pounds and lost 1. I lost a lot of weight when I started smoking the last time around but I walked too. I do not want my weight to be a reason to start smoking again so I am trying to eat more sensibly and get more exercise. That is the best way I know how now. I really was disgusted with myself the last quit when the weight started piling on as I thought well yeah my lungs are clearing up but I am huffing and puffing with the extra 50 pounds on me LOL. So I am looking at what I did while quitting smoking back in 2002-2003 and doing it different. I realize I CAN learn from my last quit so it was not all in vain. I also am quitting two months sooner then I did the last quit and so it is nicer weather and I can be outside exercising more. This winter I want to join the health club at the hospital I work at so I can still get in shape and stay that way when it is too cold to walk outside. I know I have to keep the quit and the weight has to come afterwards but I really don't want to be huffing and puffing with the extra weight either. So will see how this goes. I am more energetic so the excercising is coming easier these days. Been walking 1 to 2 times a day when I can. Have a great night everyone!! I have been quit for 2 Weeks, 2 Days, 23 hours, 44 minutes and 13 seconds (16 days). I have saved $135.91 by not smoking 679 cigarettes. I have saved 2 Days, 8 hours and 35 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 9/8/2005 9:00 PM Hugs and love, Karen

24 pounds down now....it has taken awhile but getting there. I had fluctuated a few pounds back and forth but had not gained it all back. I swore I would not gain but gained a tun and taking it off slow but sure while still keeping my quit.

I piled the weight on this quit like I said I wasn't going to but it is okay. I have lost 46 pounds since the beginning of June and am overjoyed. I am still not smoking, 7 years smoke free this past September 8, and am getting back into shape. I weigh less than I did when I quit smoking which is awesome!!! It is a new journey for me and I have great support in it and am very blessed and grateful.
