Hello everyone, I just found this place. Today is day one for me. I have already questioned whether or not this is a good idea, but I am gonna hang in there. I am only 29, and have been a smoker for less than 10 years. I proably smoke a pack a day. sometimes more sometimes less. I just feel like it is time. However, as I know everyone here knows, it's difficult.

Hello everyone! My name is Marty and this may be a rather long post because I have a little history to tell so that you can understand better, and maybe I will, too. First, please excuse my many typos. I will do my best to keep them at a minimum, but I v=can't promise much right now because I feel like my head is on one planet and my body on another. You see, On March 6 I had a large benign tumor removed from my brain and still have a loooooong way to go in my recovery. I also have a panic disorder that is really sticking with me this time which causes fear, dizziness, nausea and, well, panic. When I was in hospital, I couldn't smoke, which interrupted a 3 pack a day 30 year old routine. When I got out I didn't smoke for about a month and started again 2 weeks ago, like an idiot. Before starting up agsain, I was feeling so much better! I had to learn to walk again and was doing well with that, and my motor skills were better. Now that I started back, nearly all the progress I've made is gone or leaving, and I wonder if I would have been better off dying during surgery. Dr gave me a 7 mg. per day patch and I just looked at them and read the warnings, etc, and realized that the side effects are exactly like a panic attack, and now I'm afraid to use them. Things have improved from before the surgery, tho. I am smoking only about a third of what I was, and never inside th house, but still... I am dizzy and disjointed 24/7 and it has to be the nicotine. I just had a monument to remember. I was standing at the back door, smoking, and crying because I hated it so much, and still finished the thing. What sense is there in that? All I know is that I need help. I have 2 cigarettes left, a husband who refuses to buy more, patches I'm scared to use and no hope. Can't sleep and am sick of living like this.

Hi star Your up early for my time zone! Welcome to smokebusters and here you will find some nice people who have managed to quit smoking and many of us have kept the quit for years. the nasty nicobeast can grab on tight and it takes alot to quiet the addiction in your head. It's obvious that you have many reasons to stop smoking and the first step is to make the decision to stop! Today is a good day....don't fear it - but embrace it and also prepare for it. Perhaps you would try the new orange flavored nicorette or some other quit aid, but they are just aids, you must decide to stop smoking for yourself first. It is very hard and difficult in the beginning but things do level out more and more as you gain quit time! You have been thru alot Star and smoking isn't going to help you at all...it is just an addiction. After a week or so all the nicotine is out of your body and then it is all mental. Don't be afraid, you can make it! Hang out here and ask questions and post concerns...we can help.

Has life been testing you!! I feel for you Marty. It really sucks when we realize that we are slaves to addiction. It sounds like you've reached that point...the point where you are fed up with it. Good! Use that anger! Get mad! Fight! Put all the blame of life's ills upon that addiction. You will need to villanize smoking to stop doing it. And then commit to being Quit. There are other aids besides the patch. There are gums, carrot\cinnamin sticks, sucker-pops, other meds as well. But in the end, it isn't an aid that makes one stay Quit...it is determination! Sheer will to be smokeless. Good luck to you in your health and your battle for smokelessness.
btw...I have a 12.5" Dob for stargazing in the garage.

Hello everyone. I am desperately trying to quit smoking. I did the hypnosis on Monday 7/16/07. I have had a few slip ups since then. I resist as long as I can and then I give in. Can anyone give me some advice on how to handle the cravings? I have smoked a pack a day or less for the last 12-13 years. I know that it is bad for me and I have seen the negative results that it has had on my father, and I really want to kick this habit. Not only for me, but for my kids. I want to be here and watch then grow into adults and not to always think of their mom as the smoker.

Hi want!! Good name. Now make it happen! You have to want to be Quit more than you wat to smoke. Not easy. Quit aids can help, be they gum, lollypops, patches, meds, etc. Sometimes diversions work better like sleep, walks, showers, dishwashing, bike rides, head stands, etc. At first it isn't kicking the habit, but dealing with the urges. Sometimes you have to fight for those precious smokefree hours, then days, then weeks, etc. A crave will never kill you but smoking just may. It really is true that you are a smoke away from a pack a day. Don't trick yourself to thing that you can have just one puff or just one cig...lies lies lies!!! No smoking, no...matter...what! C'mon, you can do it and we'll be here to cheer you along.

Hello! My name is Jamie and tomorrow will be 3 weeks quit for me. I smoked for 33 years. Some days are easier than others, and sometimes I feel like I need a little support. I quit cold turkey after reading Allen Carr's book.
