Me again- I forgot to mention- Try taking a good multi-vitamin/mineral daily. If your lacking something or when you are stressed the cravings increase and vitamins can help. B-complex vitamins are especially good for the nerves, also Omega 3 supplements and Calcium/Mag.

Hi Matt, Hope today was a good one. Re: nutrition- I noticed a big, no make that huge, difference in my mood and energy level when I stopped eating so many sugary foods and simple starches. These are the foods that consist primarily of flour ie white bread and foods like potatoes and rice. These foods cause an insulin spike so initially you feel good but this feeling is very shortlived then the bloodsugar drops leaving you feeling tired and irritable. A lot of caffeine will do the same thing. Exercise is the safest anti-depressant around. Walking will do. It is amazing how much calmer and more energized you will feel after a brisk walk, Breathe deep, and feel those lungs getting healthier and healthier. Quitting smoking, eating healthier, exercising, each one reinforces the other and keeps you on the straight and narrow. Start with small, gradual changes but do them consistently. You will return to a normal sleep pattern sooner too. I don't want to harp on this but for me it make all the difference in the world!

I was sooo tired when I quit. I remember thinking it was rather odd because everyone kept saying,"Wow, you must feel so much better." Actually, it wasn't until I changed my diet, avoiding sugars and simple starches, and started walking regularly that I felt great. Hang in there, it's worth it!

John, It's just a generic Life brand from Shoppers DrugMart. I've never seen a 5 mg. patch. I've only seen the 21,14 and 7. They should have a 5 or 4. It makes sense. Good Luck to you! Don't worry about a little nicotine compared to the 200 plus chemicals in cigs plus the tar, carbon dioxide etc. etc

Hey John! I cut my 7m patch in half. That's where I am now. 5 mths tomorrow. It may be the slowest withdrawal in history but who cares. I'm in this for the long run. Do what works. No need to rush things. Funny thing about the St. Johns Wort. I tried it once and it really bummed me out, some kind of paradoxical effect-go figure....

I started cutting my patches awhile back. I was afraid to do it until I was firmly established in my quit. But I started cutting the 14m in half and now I cut the 7mm in half. It works fine. I just put the other half back on the silver paper and slid it back in the wrap. I think the drug companies just advise against it to make more money, the scoundrels.

I haven't had any white knuckle moments for awhile now,I thought the time would never come. For me, changing my diet (avoiding a lot of sugar and simple starches), taking vitamins, and exercising is what turned it around. Plus, I got a new little kitten who is so affectionate and cuddly he's a real stress buster. So, hang in there everyone,it does get easier. Now, if I could only get rid of these teenagers.....
