Hi everyone. My name is Karen and I am from Minnesota. I have been wanting to quit smoking but having a hard time getting through the first day. I quit from November of 2002 to December of 2003 and started up again. Have not had much success since then. I was searching for support online and found your board. The board looks very nice. I belong to other boards for different things so know my way around them pretty well and have my own board also. Just wanted to stop by and introduce myself. Hope you all have a great day.
Love,
Karen

Hi Karen, glad you've chosen to visit.
You did the hard part, prepare and give it another go. At the "Y" where I swim & exercise, I've found the hardest part is getting your foot thru the door.
I suppose you know what aids help you the most. You've been looking for support. Now the foot in the door..... set a quit date and go for it. We'll catch you if you start to fall.

Hello too Karen! IMHO, Support is KEY to staying Quit. Whether it's this board or others, having a community of people who share a common struggle is the best way to conquer the monster of addiction. You were Quit for a long time so you know the struggle. You should also be a little more aware of yourself, since quitting opens our eyes a bit to see how profoundly we're addicted. Feel free to post whatever you're feeling. Read what you can here ...and at our former board at : southbeachfriends.com/forums/viewforum.php?forum=33&1

Hi Karen, I would assume by your post that you are still smoking. I think that by hanging around and posting here you very well could be inspired to set a quit date or just quit one day cause it feels right! I see you have your own bb and I took a peek...Nice job!! We are all new to this proboards and getting the hang of things. Our response has been very good since getting things rolling earlier this year. We love to help folks kick the habbit which ever way works. Most of us have found that being a bit desperate to quit, taking advantage of quit aids, putting some kind of plan in place (even if it's just writing down why you want to quit), gaining understanding as to how the beast works, and getting support online or elseware is KEY to success. Hope you hang out and decide like many of us to take back your freedom. It surely is a worthy struggle amd most doable! Welcome and don't be a stranger, Post and read often for best results _slim 1223 days ...one at a time

Thanks Slim! You are right in assuming I have not quit yet. But I will get there. I have been sober for many years and want to kick the nicotine habit also. It will be one day at a time or an hour at a time when I do quit for sure. I am sure glad I found this site as I believe I will need it for support like we all do. Thanks for taking a peek at my board. I am a newby at making a message board but it will get there Have a good night. Love, Karen

Hey, have any of you used those quit meters. I had one when I quit through silkquit.org and when I went back the last time they wanted money to have it. I know there are some other free ones out there. Just wondering if you all had had experience with them. For me, it was kind of neat to see the money saved, etc.
Love,
Karen

;DWelcome to the Board!!
Get your tools ready for your quit, i.e., water, patches, gum, whatever and hold on for the ride. Its a powerful drug but as you can see from all of us, we did it and you can too!! Post how you are feeling. We are there for you!!

Welcome, Karen! You've overcome one demon, you can overcome the nicobeast! Support, attitude and commitment will get youthere. You can find the support here, but it's up to you to commit yourself to the quit and get a "can do" attitude! Hope to see your meter adding up your quit stats soon!

Hi Karen!
I have just returned from vacation so my greetings are a bit late. This is a great board with lots of helpful people and lots of helpful advice (not to mention all the wonderful pats on the back they give!)

I quit. You can, too. I still have cravings but they pass. I tell myself tomorrow I will smoke if I want to and then tomorrow comes and I tell myself the same thing.
It's all mental once you are on a program such as the patch.
One month, one day, 18 hours, 24 minutes and 4 seconds. 1111 cigarettes not smoked, saving $166.77. Life saved: 3 days, 20 hours, 35 minutes.
