Hello! Checking in from Lotus Land. Four months smoke free and loving it.
It's beautiful here. We are experiencing a fabulous warm autumn. So nice without the cigarettes.

I take it that it will be similar to heroin addicts - who use methodone is it and they stay on that for the rest of their lives - in that they will use nicotine patches etc. in stead of smoking. This got me wondering if nicotine in itself is not harmful but only the additives they put in the cigarettes....
Anyhow, that is another can of worms and we'll just take one can at a time right? I'm off cigarettes and that's enough.
Thanks for the reply Bubb.

I'm confused. Is it the nicotine that is harmful or is it the poisons that are put in the cigarettes that are harmful?
And if nicotine is harmful (by itself without the help of the added poisons they put in cigarettes), why is it safe to use nicotine patches and other aids. Some are even going so far as to say you could stay on nicotine patches etc. for years.
And what is going on with chewing tobacco. Do they contain poisons too which are the harmful elements or is it the nicotine.
Can someone please straighten me out? I've done some research on the net but can't seem to get an answer. My searches seem to mix nicotine with smoking.
Thank you.

For sure! Try! What can it hurt! You might only quit for a day, but that's a day without smoke in your lungs and that's good. Then you add on another day, and so on. It's all good. Try it. We all highly recommend it and it's not as hard as you think.

Thanks Batman. I am always grateful for being freed from cigarettes. It was truly a miracle. Cigarettes were so much a part of me. And now, I can't even stand the smell of second hand smoke.

Thanks everyone for the words of praise and encouragement. Thanks Don for the sympathy and thanks Slim for your post. It helps to know that it may all go away then. I went to the doc's on Monday about the spinach thing (you know the alert re the EColi/spinach thing) and also my rash which got worse on the weekend, spreading to my chest (a burning and itching like you wouldn't believe). He said that the runs should dissipate by Wed (and if not to return) but he wasn't worried about it or the spinach thing - but he was concerned about the rash and thinks it might be an allergic reaction to something so he's got me on Reactin for allergies. It is hard to tell if it's working - it seems less itchy now but last night I was scratchy but only for a bit.... hopefully it will all work itself out.
But you're right Don, it's much better without smoking. Before, with my smoking, I'd be coughing like mad right about now and I only had the cough for two days. Awesome!

The date almost didn't register. September 18. Four months ago, May 18, I quit smoking.
I've been quite busy with my new job and I've had hardly a minute to myself so it was a good test to see if I could stand on my own two feet away from this site and I'm doing ok. I love checking in here and knowing you're all here though.
I was really sick with the flu all last week. Thought I was getting over it but Saturday, woke up to the runs all weekend. Couldn't eat anything as a result. So, basically, have hardly eaten anything for two days, three if you count today...I am worried because I have been eating spinach humous - made at the organic store but nonetheless....so, I'm going to the doctor's today just to make sure....
Since I quit, I've been quite worried about my eating and glucose level. I found out that the extra weight I've put on was as a result of the extra eating I've been doing with this glucose thing and that I'm more balanced out now and I'm getting the hang of things - don't need to eat as much - though what I am eating is healthier.
I think between not eating in 2 days and being so busy, I'm not making a lot of sense here. Basically, I'm four months smoke free and loving it and have no intention of relapsing!
Don't smoke and don't hang out with those that do.

Hello everyone from Lotus Land! It's cloudy today. My new job is great. We have a golf tournament planned for this Friday but it may rain....it's a what you call "best ball" tournament so it doesn't matter if you can't golf. Steak after. I'm a lucky girl.
Smoke free now for FOUR MONTHS today! Yay!

Has it been 5 years already. It seems like just yesterday. How sad.

I am truly amazed. I was of the view that all these nicotine replacement aids didn't work. That you had to do it 'cold turkey' but I've read quite a few testimonials that say otherwise. Perhaps the secret to a successful quit is not so much how you quit but who you quit with - a support system - feedback and support from those who are sharing the journey.
Again, congratulations Karen for your one year anniversary. It was a tough road wasn't it. I've read some of your earlier posts and I'm amazed you made it. Some of your posts were soooo close to relapsing. Good for you. Keep it up.
