Elaine, good for you. I need to LTF also. If you find a magic way, please pass it on. One word of caution. I know that you've been quit for over 2 months now, but don't stress over the weight gain. If the diet starts to weaken your resolve to stay smokefree, dump the diet. You'll have plenty of time later to LTF, after all, it's not going anywhere, right? ;D Your quit, not your weight should be your main priority. You'd have to gain tons of weight before it would be more detrimental to your health than smoking. So, if you're ready, go for it. If not, it won't hurt to wait a bit longer. I'll get off my soapbox now. Good luck.

Karen, you are right. Food will not replace nicotine, just as nicotine cannot replace food. I hear ya about weight gain. I haven't gained any with this quit, but I didn't lose any weight from my last quit, so still pudgy. Oh well, at least I don't smoke. Yeah!

Good for you Blake. Believe it or not, but I GAINED weight on all the soy products. I was a vegetarian for 5 years, and watched my weight continue to rise, slowly, but it did rise, even with exercise. Everyone's metabolism is different. This sure seems to work for you. I'll be anxious to see what your cholesterol is in December. My husband had a heart attack 8 years ago, so I do watch what I fix for him. He lost 50 lbs. in 6 months on a low fat, low cholesterol diet. Sigh!

Good for you Pengie. Let us know how it works for you in the long run. I'm thinking about the Southbeach diet. It's monitoring carbs, but nothing like Atkins. Good luck, and Merry Christmas.

Ok, I give up on the low carb diet. Yes, you can lose weight quickly, but you just have to give up too much. If you have one little "no no", bam, the weight comes right back on. So, I guess I'll go back to low fat, low cal. At least this way I can have fruit again. I really missed my fruit. Sigh. I also need to get off of my dead butt and exercise. That should be a four letter word. I hate to sweat.

Congrats MK. That's fantastic - the 5 pounds, and the fact you didn't gain after going to the shower. You go girl!

Home fries. My son came over for dinner last night. And I fried up a whole skillet of home fries - his favorite. Did I eat them. You bet. Not great when you're doing low carb. I just couldn't help myself.

I've been there and done that as far as the menopause thing. I didn't gain weight, and my blood pressure didn't go up either. Rather than hormone replacement, I opted for soy. I took soy capsules everyday and it cut out the hot flashes and all the other little nasties that went with it - mood swings, etc. I think I would have the doctor rethink the side effect thing. At least tell him you'd like to try another pb pill to see if it clears it up. JMHO. Congrats Judy on the miles logged on the bike. You should be skinny as a rail.

I have the attention span of a gnat I guess. I make all these resolutions on Sunday about what I'm going to do that week (food wise), and by Wednesday, I'm stuffing my face. I just don't seem to be able to stay focused. Any suggestions? Thanks.

After work. I get up too early to exercise before work. As it is, I wake up the roosters so they can wake up the rest of the world. It's hard though. After work, all I really want to do is sit on my fat butt. If I don't allow myself to think about it, or to sit down, I can usually jump in there and get it done. I feel good afterward, it's just getting motivated.

Kit, I get them in the regular grocery store. If you don't have a large chain store in your town, you may need to go to a drug store or a health food store. Let me know what you find.

To reduce the risk of salmonella, I use protein powder. It's a great pick me up after exercise. I use the Atkins shake mix plus a few berries. Hmmmm. I love berries of all kinds. There are all kinds of protein powders on the market these day.

Here are some sites that will help out in the recipe department. www.meals.com/Index/Index.aspxwww.allrecipes.com/www.foodnetwork.com/I haven't been using Food Network very long, so I'm still learning what it can do. The other two allow you to save recipes to your "recipe box", add to your "grocery list", and plan out meals for day, weeks, months. They are searchable for low fat, low carb, low sodium, low sugar, etc. I hope you find these sites helpful. Oh, it's free sign up to all of these sights. Enjoy!
